1917 - 2018

Dorothy SpenceDorothy Spence, 101, “Eye hath not seen or ear heard, nor mind has conceived what God has prepared for those whose love Him” 1Cor. 2:9. Dorothy walked through the gates of glory on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at home in Proctorville, Ohio. She came into this world on October 17, 1917, daughter of the late Hiram and Bertha Cremeans. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert Vernon Spence; five brothers, Glen, Odell, Wetzel, Norman and Fred Cremeans. She is survived by three children Don Robert Spence (Linda), Susan Jean Dunn (Don) and Mark Vernon Spence (Teresa). God blessed her with five grandchildren who loved their “Granny” very much, Christine Wise, Phillip Dunn, Jennifer Hosey, Stacey Spence and Joshua Spence. The Lord continued to bless as eleven great grandchildren were added, Patrick McCoy and Faith Murray, Morgan and Heath Adkins, Dawn and Sara Miller, Christian, Tatum and Mallory Dunn, and Laci and Kurtis Wilkinson. She is also survived by one sister, Virginia Goodman and her family of Baltimore, Maryland; and a special cousin Madeline Keefer. Dorothy wore many hats throughout her life as a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her faith in Christ carried her through the years. She constantly prayed for her family and read her Bible daily. One of her greatest joys was teaching little children in Sunday School in earlier days. She loved her class and they loved her, not wanting to leave when they got old enough to move to another class. God also gave her a gift of memorizing scriptures. She could memorize and recite entire chapters if called upon on or if she felt the Spirit was leading her to do so. She and her loving husband visited many many churches during their life together, always looking for revivals while not missing a service at their home church. Dorothy was a wise, loving, praying woman that loved her family unconditionally and was a friend to many. She lived a long, full life and even though her family will miss her, they know she will be waiting to greet them on the other side of Jordan. The family extends a special thank you to Sharon Staten and Community Hospice for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Community Hospice, Ashland, Ky. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, Ohio with Pastor Phillip Warren and Dr. David Lemming officiating. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville, WV. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at
