1954 - 2023
 Steven Otto Thornton, 69, of Barboursville, passed away September 21, 2023, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House with his loving wife and daughter, Teresa and Emma by his side. He was born January 5, 1954, in Charleston, WV, son of the late Buford Thornton and Wealthy Penny Mills Napier and his stepmother Lena Ruth Thornton. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he was a Lieutenant Commander and a Chaplain. He retired from Thomas Memorial/St. Francis Hospitals where he served as Chaplain. He was also Pastor at Cross Lanes Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife Teresa Woodall Thornton; two daughters Mary Thornton of Roanoke, VA, and Emma Thornton of Stephens City, VA; two stepdaughters Julie Berry of Salt Rock and Krystal Farley of Huntington; one brother Jerry Thornton (Darlene); half sister Marsha Gillenwater (Jon); three step grandchildren Blake, Laynee, Lukas; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Wallace Funeral Home & Chapel, Barboursville. Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Barboursville. Condolences to Steve’s family. Steve was a good friend through high school. I regret that we didn’t stay in touch. He was an incredible athlete and all around nice guy.
